Jesus Feeds the Five Thousand
It was a warm afternoon, and a large crowd had gathered on the hillside to listen to Jesus teach. People had walked for hours to hear his words. Some had brought food, but many had not.
As the sun lowered in the sky, the disciples grew worried. “The people are hungry,” they told Jesus. “Send them away to find food in the nearby villages.”
Jesus smiled. “They don’t need to go. You give them something to eat.”
The disciples were confused. “But we only have five loaves of bread and two fish! How can that be enough for so many?”
Jesus took the small basket of food. He looked up to heaven and gave thanks. Then he broke the bread and fish into pieces and handed them to the disciples.
“Give these to the people,” he said.
They began to pass the food around. First to ten people, then to fifty, then to hundreds. As they passed the baskets, the food never ran out.
Everyone ate until they were full.
When the meal was finished, the disciples collected the leftovers—twelve baskets full!
The people were amazed. They looked at Jesus and knew they had witnessed something special. A miracle.
