The Fifth Companion: Leo
Leo — The Solar Lion (General / Leader)
- Title/Attribute: The Solar Lion of the Light Attribute.
- Appearance: A male lion with a crimson mane and golden fur. He carries a dignified and steady aura, like a supreme commander.
- Personality: Resolute and decisive, with the charisma to inspire others. While he is a strong leader, he deeply understands the importance of relying on his comrades.
- Role/Position: The core strategist and decision-maker. He excels at integrating diverse opinions and serves as the commander who ensures the team remains united.
- Core Bonds: He relies heavily on Hu Ji’s (狐姬) brilliant strategies and places absolute trust in Leshi’s (雷希) protection.
- Symbolism: He represents "Unity" (團結).
The Origin of Leo: Lionheart City
Lionheart City, Leo's homeland, is a militaristic state built on a foundation of absolute power and ruthless Spartanism.
- The Ideology: From its very inception, the city has worshipped the "Survival of the Fittest." It functions not as a society, but as a giant, cold machine.
- The Indoctrination: At the tender age of six, children are forcibly severed from their families. They are thrust into a collective, high-pressure environment designed to break their individuality and rebuild them as soldiers.
- The Objective: The goal is to strip away their humanity—erasing fear, hesitation, and even the capacity to feel pain—turning them into nothing more than living war machines fueled by nationalistic fanatacism.
Infancy and Childhood (Birth)
The Rite of Inspection (Birth): Immediately upon birth, every infant is brought before the Council of Elders for a mandatory physical and behavioral evaluation.
- The Selection: The city has no tolerance for what they deem "weakness." If a newborn is found to be sickly, shows signs of a "timid" disposition, or possesses any perceived physical defects, they are instantly rejected.
- The Sentence: Abandonment. These "unfit" infants are discarded in the desolate wilderness surrounding the city, left to perish from exposure or starvation. In Lionheart City, life is not a right; it is a privilege granted only to those who promise to be "strong.
The Great Severing (Ages 0 to 7+)
- Early Childhood (0–7): Until the age of seven, boys remain under the care of their mothers and families. Meanwhile, girls undergo rigorous training in physical education, music, and dance—not for leisure, but to ensure they grow into strong, disciplined mothers for the next generation of soldiers.
- The State Takeover (Age 7): The moment a boy turns seven, his connection to his family is permanently severed. The state takes full custody. He is removed from his home and forced into military barracks, organized into "units" (squads). From this day forward, his life belongs to the military.
- The Core Objective: The regime’s singular goal is the eradication of individualism. Through collective living and brutal military drills, the system breeds professional killers who are indoctrinated to:
- Practice absolute obedience to the state.
- Endure any level of physical or mental agony without flinching.
- Place the interests of the Nation above family, emotion, and their own lives.
The Rise of Jaka and the Cracks in the System
Out of the brutal Spartan system of Lionheart City, a supreme and overwhelming leader was born: Jaka the Black Lion.
- The Extremist Shift: Upon taking power, Jaka pushed the militaristic regime to its absolute limit. He intensified foreign conquests, turning the city into an unstoppable war machine.
- The Illusion of Prosperity: His campaigns brought back staggering wealth and temporary glory, ushering in an era of unprecedented opulence for Lionheart City.
- The Sickening Cost: However, this "prosperity" was a poison. Constant warfare led to racial exhaustion—the population was dwindling, and the spirit of the people was breaking under the weight of endless bloodletting.
The Awakening of Leo: Observing the hollow eyes of the soldiers and the slow decay of his people despite the overflowing gold, Leo began to harbor deep, forbidden doubts. He realized that a nation built on the sacrifice of its children had no future, leading him to question the very foundation of the system he was born to serve.
The Legend of Two Heroes: Brothers Divided
Leo and Jaka were the legendary icons birthed by the system—mythical figures whose overwhelming strength allowed them to shatter age-old traditions.
- The Rise to Power: Breaking all age restrictions through sheer prowess, they ascended to the pinnacle of Lionheart City. Jaka became the King (the ultimate leader), while Leo served as his Warmaster (second-in-command). They were more than allies; they were bound by a bond as deep as brotherhood.
- The Schism: As the regime grew more extreme, their paths diverged. Jaka chose to embrace the iron-fisted doctrine, leading Lionheart City into an era of endless, bloody conquest. Unable to stomach the dehumanization of his people, Leo defected to lead the Resistance, turning his blade against his brother to stop the madness.
- The Turning Point: The two remained in a brutal deadlock until the arrival of Leshi. With Leshi’s aid, Leo finally found the strength to challenge the core of the system, signaling the dawn of a long-awaited transformation for Lionheart City.
The Spark of Rebellion: A Life Found in the Waste
The turning point came during Leo's return from a routine mission. In the desolate wilderness surrounding the city, he discovered an abandoned infant—a frail lion cub left to die simply because he was deemed "weak" by the Council.
- The Awakening: Staring at the shivering, helpless life, Leo could no longer stomach the sickening cruelty of the system. He refused to let the child perish.
- The Act of Defiance: Leo’s decision to adopt the child was his first true act of treason. This single infant became the catalyst for everything that followed.
- The Birth of the Resistance: Driven by the need to protect those the state had discarded, Leo founded the Resistance. His base became a sanctuary, a home for "unfit" children and orphans of war who had been treated as nothing more than broken parts of a war machine.
The Nauseating Reality of Lionheart City
When Leshi and his companions arrived at Lionheart City, they were met with a chilling display of collective madness. The residents did not just accept the brutal training of their children—they were perversely proud of it, swept up in a wave of fanatical emotion.
- The Training Grounds: During a tour of the military drills, they witnessed adult lions brutally whipping young cubs who failed to meet expectations. The cubs’ eyes were hollow, filled with a silent agony as they suppressed the urge to cry, knowing that tears were a forbidden weakness. The sight left Leshi with a stomach-turning sense of helplessness—a visceral urge to intervene, yet paralyzed by the weight of the situation.
- The Plaza Tragedy: In the city square, they encountered a mother pleading in despair. Most of her children had already perished on the battlefield, and she begged for her last remaining cub to be spared so he could grow up in peace. Her pleas were coldly rejected, and the child was forcibly dragged away.
- The Intervention: Just as Leshi reached his breaking point and was about to strike, Leo intervened at the perfect moment to save them from a direct confrontation. Following this encounter, Leshi joined Leo and retreated to the Resistance base.
A Vow Amidst the Ruins: The Bond of Two Souls
Back at the base, Leshi could no longer contain his fury. He lashed out, questioning the sickening absurdity of Lionheart City’s laws. Facing Leshi’s anger, Leo spoke with a heavy heart, revealing the grim truth he had long carried.
- A City on the Brink: Leo pointed out that the city was spiraling toward its own annihilation. The relentless cycle of war was depleting their people—every "victory" meant fewer lions to carry on the bloodline.
- The Tragic Blindness: "Why," Leo asked in despair, "does no one stop to cherish what they still have?" He realized that a system built solely on conquest was a death sentence; a race that only knows how to destroy itself has no future.
- The Covenant: Moved by Leo’s vision and the weight of his burden, Leshi made a solemn vow to help Leo tear down this broken system. From that moment on, Leo began to cherish Leshi as more than just an ally—he saw him as a dearest friend, a beacon of hope in a darkening world.
The Conflict of Souls: More Than a Soldier
Leo cherished Leshi as his dearest friend, not merely as a soldier under his command. Because of this bond, Leshi often acted on his own judgment, ignoring formal orders.
- The Breaking Point: On several occasions, Leshi threw himself into extreme danger to save a single dying cub, leaving Leo paralyzed with fear for his friend's life. This led to a fierce confrontation—a clash of wills where neither would back down.
- The Misunderstanding: Leshi initially believed that Leo viewed him only as a "Trump Card"—a powerful asset to be deployed and sacrificed for the greater good, cold and indifferent to the value of a single life.
- The Commander’s Burden: From a military perspective, Leo’s coldness was a necessity. As the Supreme Commander, he bore the weight of every life in the army. In the harsh logic of war, sacrificing the few to save the many is the "correct" decision, but it was a logic Leshi’s heart refused to accept.
The Reconciliation: The tension shattered when Leo finally confessed his true feelings: his strictness didn't stem from seeing Leshi as a tool, but from the fact that Leshi was too precious to lose. Leshi then led Leo to the nursery to see the cubs he had rescued, now playing happily. "Every life is unique and deserves to be guarded," Leshi said. "My life is no more noble than theirs. I fear death, but I fear the loss of an innocent soul because of my hesitation even more."
Leo was stunned. He found it hard to believe that such profound empathy and vision came from a child—a perspective even most adults fail to grasp.
- The Silent Observer: Hu Ji (狐姬) chose not to intervene, knowing this was a battle between men. Her role was to provide comfort and repair the damage once the storm had passed, though she had already prepared for the worst—secretly planning for camp repairs and medical aid in case the two legendary warriors actually leveled the base during their argument.
The Soul of the Resistance
Leshi possessed a boundless candor and a fearless spirit—qualities that Leo, bound by his position and past, lacked. In particular, Leshi’s profound love for all living things became the ultimate spiritual pillar for Leo throughout the grueling rebellion.
Ironically, while Leshi provided the strength to lead, it was the smiles of the surviving cubs at Leo’s base that truly healed Leshi’s own heart. Their laughter became the living proof that their struggle had meaning.
This shared connection became the definitive reason for everyone to fight: to protect a future that cannot be surrendered.
The Gathering Storm: Resolve Forged in Fury
As more regions were liberated, waves of innocent civilians flocked to Leo's Resistance seeking sanctuary. They were exhausted by the endless bloodshed and refused to watch their children’s lives wasted on the battlefield any longer. Bound by a shared desire to protect the next generation, their growing support transformed the Resistance into a formidable force, bringing the inevitable final confrontation with Jaka ever closer.
However, as the scales of power balanced between the two armies, Leo fell into a state of profound hesitation. He was paralyzed by the thought of his followers sacrificing their lives and his reluctance to fight his brother, Jaka.
Witnessing this indecision, Leshi exploded in a fit of rage. He grabbed Leo by his collar, demanding to know why he had founded the Resistance in the first place. He threw a bitter, piercing truth at Leo:
"No amount of glory can ever bring back a life that has been lost."
These words struck Leo like a physical blow, shattering his doubts. It became the ultimate conviction that steeled his heart to face Jaka and fight for the future of his people.
The Verdict of the Black Lion
Jaka stepped forward, his dark mane surging like shadows in the flickering firelight. His golden eyes held no rage—only a chilling, hollow disappointment.
"Leo," he began, his voice deep and commanding, sounding more like a judge delivering a sentence than a brother. "You have betrayed Lionheart City."
"Once, you were a hero standing before all beasts. And now?" Jaka let out a cold sneer, his gaze sweeping over the diverse species standing beside Leo. "You have chosen to bow before fate. You have chosen the company of inferior races."
His tone was not one of inquiry, but of conviction. "We are lions. We were born to fight, born to stand above all others. This is the truth of our blood; it is the Way of the Sovereign that cannot be denied."
Jaka’s voice sharpened, cutting through the air. "And yet, you call this 'coexistence'? You allow yourself to be used by them, shielding the weak from the storm?"
He pressed forward, looking down upon Leo with absolute authority. "That is not mercy. That is weakness."
Finally, he whispered, his voice stripped of all warmth. "I am... disappointed in you, Leo."
The Plea of the Sun Lion
"Constant warfare is bleeding our people dry," Leo, the Sun Lion, replied with a voice thick with grief and indignation. "If this continues, the entire lion race will face extinction. Look at the battlefields soaked in the blood of our warriors! Can you not hear the cries of the orphans, wandering through the embers of war, searching for the families they’ve lost?"
"End this, Jaka! Put down your blade!" Leo stepped forward, his eyes burning with a desperate hope. "Lions can have a different future—a world where everyone can laugh, where we walk hand-in-hand with others to build a future filled with hope. That is the world I am fighting for!"
The Duel for the Future
Knowing that a full-scale clash between their armies would lead to catastrophic casualties and a senseless war, Leo stepped forward. To prevent further bloodshed, he challenged Jaka to a one-on-one duel, staking the entire future of the lion race on its outcome. This challenge marked the final, irreversible rupture of their brotherhood.
Jaka, possessing absolute confidence in his own might, understood his role perfectly. To protect his followers and uphold the laws of Lionheart City, he had to set an example by personally executing the "traitor." Without a moment's hesitation, he accepted.
The final battle began, the air heavy with tension as the two legends faced off in the Coliseum.
The Final Dawn: A Brotherhood Reborn
In the early stages of the duel, Jaka unleashed his absolute dark power, consuming Leo’s light and leaving him battered and struggling to survive. Just as Jaka prepared to deliver the killing blow, the memory of the cubs' smiles at the base flashed through Leo's mind. Fueled by a desperate will to protect, Leo ignited his inner light, launching a fierce counterattack that finally brought Jaka to the ground.
As Leo stood over his fallen brother, blade ready to end it, Leshi’s gentle cry pierced the silence, awakening Leo’s compassion. Leo lowered his weapon.
Defeated and broken, Jaka roared in fury, "Are you so cowardly that you lack even the courage to strike me down?"
Leo looked at him calmly. "Enough, Jaka. My enemy was never you—it was this cruel system. As long as this regime exists, innocent lives will continue to be sacrificed. It is over. You have lost."
Jaka stared blankly at the sky, whispering, "What did I lack? Why is it that since we went our separate ways, you have drifted so far ahead of me?"
Leo reached down and pulled Jaka to his feet. Glancing toward Leshi and the children, he replied softly, "Because I have them. That is the reason I could not lose. And even now, Jaka... you are still my dearest friend."
Leo pulled Jaka into a tight embrace, letting him feel the warmth of the brotherhood they had nearly lost. A faint smile touched Jaka’s lips as he whispered, "You’ve grown strong, Leo."
Turning to his followers, Jaka declared the dissolution of the military effective immediately: "From this day forth, the army is disbanded. Every soul is free to live according to their own heart." Together, Leo and Jaka dismantled the old laws of Lionheart City, ushering in a new era of cooperation and a future built on hope.
The Tragedy of Jaka: A Soul Sacrificed to the System
Beneath his cold exterior, Jaka never stopped cherishing his brotherhood with Leo. However, the system had systematically erased his humanity, forcing him into a cycle of conquest he could not escape. He loved Leo deeply, yet was forced to draw his blade against him—a testament to the chilling cruelty of their reality.
Jaka chose to suppress his emotions, convincing himself that sacrificing this precious bond was a necessary offering for the future of the Lion race.
- The Horror of Systemic Evil: There is nothing more ruthless than the "Evil of the System." While dismantling a corrupt regime can take generations and claim countless lives, a new, toxic system can be erected in an instant, allowing malice and trauma to be passed down through the bloodlines.
- A Leader of Conviction: Jaka’s conquests were never for personal gain. He led from the front lines, risking his life more than any other soldier. This selflessness is why his followers were so fanatically loyal.
- The Burden of the Crown: If Jaka were truly consumed by a lust for power, he would never have accepted Leo’s duel. His acceptance was an act of dignity—a testament to his love for his people. He bore the heavy weight of every life under his command, knowing all too well that in the heart of war, steel and fire have no mercy.
The Rebirth of Lionheart City: A New Horizon
Under the inclusive leadership of Leo and the tireless assistance of Leshi, Lionheart City underwent a radical transformation, shedding its brutal past to embrace a path of democracy.
- Leo’s Choice: Though he was the hero of the revolution, Leo declined to run for leadership. His heart belonged to the path of discovery and adventure alongside Leshi.
- The Path to Redemption: In a surprising turn, Leo supported his dear friend Jaka in the elections. By relinquishing his absolute power and choosing to serve the people through a democratic process, Jaka sought to atone for his past.
- Resurrection of the Soul: This act of humility allowed the citizens to gradually accept Jaka once more. For the Black Lion, this wasn't just a political change—it was a spiritual rebirth, a chance to protect the city he loved not through fear, but through the will of the people.
