The regret you feel

in your life at

the kindness not done,

the person unthanked,

the opportunity missed,

the custom unobserved,

is a form of conservatism.

The same goes for

the lost love or

the missed opportunity:

these experiences teach us

the fragility of the moment,

and that fragility

is what, in part,

defines us.

生命中曾有過

該表達卻未能表達的善意，

該感謝卻未及感謝的人們，

該抓住卻未曾抓住的機緣，

該打點卻未嘗打點的

人情世故。

對於這些過往的遺憾與懊悔，

也是一種懷舊情緒的表現。

已經無法挽回的愛情也好，

與它失之交臂的機緣也罷，

這些人生經驗使我們明白了

時光的稍縱即逝。

而就某種程度而言，

我們如今的生活現況，

就是由這些逝而不再的遺憾

所決定的。
