Holy cats! What have I done over the past few years?

Ray was an ordinary college student who dreamed of becoming a musician. After every class, he put on his earphones and listened to his favorite band on the bus ride home, imagining himself standing on a small stage under warm lights. Music gave him energy, hope, and meaning when everything else felt heavy.
However, Ray’s parents didn’t quite understand his dream. They hoped he would focus on his studies, get into a good graduate program, and build a stable future. Ray respected them, but deep inside, he longed for a life where he could express himself freely through music.
So he made a quiet promise to himself. He studied during the day and practiced the guitar late at night in his small room. It wasn’t easy. Sometimes his fingers ached, and sometimes he wanted to give up. But he reminded himself to look at how far he had come instead of how far he still had to go.
One day, the university announced a campus music competition. Ray took it as his chance. He started writing his own song and stayed up late polishing the melody. His best friend brought him snacks and told him not to push himself too hard.
On the day of the performance, Ray’s hands trembled as he stepped onto the stage. The lights felt warmer than he had expected. When he finished his song, the applause surprised him. In the front row, he saw his parents standing and clapping, their eyes filled with tears.
After the show, his mother hugged him.
“We finally understand,” she said. “You’ve worked so hard, and we’re proud of you.”
Ray realized that dreams did not grow overnight. They grew little by little, with passion, patience, and perseverance.
To be continued…
