AUTHORITY — The Power to Cultivate
In many minds, "Authority" is synonymous with obedience and control. But in the original code of language, this word has nothing to do with violence or hierarchy.
Authority stems from the Latin Auctoritas, rooted in Augere—meaning "to increase, to make grow, to make flourish."
In ancient logic, a person possessed "Authority" not because they held a seal of office or a whip, but because they possessed a specific capacity: the ability to cause whatever they touched—their team, their land, their vision—to grow.
A true Author is one who cultivates the wilderness and causes life to break through the soil. If you sit in a high position but cause those around you to shrink, wither, or live in fear, what you possess is merely Potestas (brute force), not true Authority.
Authority is not an act of seizure; it is a continuous act of nourishment.
